Bogaziçi University is the lead partner of the RENET project. The Institute of Environmental Sciences of Bogaziçi University is the first environmental research organization in Turkey established by law. The Institute comprises researchers from a broad background, i.e. not only from environmental engineering, but also from chemical, civil, and industrial engineering, chemistry, biophysics and biology. Since 2005 there is active exchange in the field of research on renewable Energy and Waste-to-Energy technologies between the BU and the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW). Bogaziçi University is currently establishing joint research and a double master and PhD program in environmental engineering with the HAW. Other activities in the field of renewable energies at the Institute of Environmental Sciences are two research study projects about the waste to energy (biogas) generation from landfills, bio fuel generation from energy crops supported by the Research Fund of the university.

The involved experts from Akdeniz Üniversitesi’s faculty of engineering consisting of the departments of Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Geological Engineering. It has developed educational programmes in accordance with the most modern standards, has contributed to the advance of chemical technology through research, and to the application of knowledge and technology for the benefit of society. The faculty has been engaged in the education of a new generation of creative, proactive engineers capable of working effectively within teams to meet the challenges of modern engineering practice, as well as giving them a solid background in the fundamental principles of engineering. There is an active exchange in the field of research on renewable Energy and solar energy technologies between Akdeniz University (AU) and the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW).
