Review: Istanbul Conference and Project Meeting
participants on Bogaziçi Campus
After the kickoff meeting in Hamburg in the beginning of summer, the first RENET conference including a regular project meeting took place from 16-17 October 2008 in Instanbul/Turkey. Under the theme “Renewable Energy – Turkish and European Perspectives”, project members from all four partners and several Turkish guests participated in this first joint event.
The project coordinator Prof Orhan Yenigün from the lead partner institution, Bogaziçi University, opened the conference followed by an introduction to the project by Dr Burak Demirel, newly appointed project manager at Bogaziçi University.

Bogaziçi’s Professor Turgut Onay reported from CFCU’s Project Management Training Meeting held in Ankara which resembled important information for project implementation purposes.
After the coffee break, Anna Spytsina presented the first results of a baseline study on Renewable Energy in Turkey, a component of the first work package of the project.
Prof Orhan Yenigün showed the participants the intended way of Bogaziçi University towards a sustainable campus and presented a comprehensive master plan how to achieve this goal. From the Swedish side, Prof Ronald Wennersten presented insights of the way the theme of renewable energy is incorporated in the curriculum at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

The last presentation of the conference was held by Prof Kerstin Kuchta who introduced the auditorium to German perspectives on Renewable Energy. As opposed to KTH, where several study programmes on renewable energy have been implemented long time ago, HAW Hamburg – as well as other German universities – is still in the beginning of the process of establishing designated study programmes on renewable energies.
So far at HAW Hamburg, the topic is integrated in various related studies (bachelors, masters upcoming) such as environmental technology and process engineering. Find the slides of all presentations in the RENET Library.
